Poets at the Heyman Center

Poets Tom Pickard, August Kleinzahler, and Maureen McLane will read from new and published work in the continuation of the Poets at the Heyman Center series.

Renowned poets Nick Laird and Timothy Donnelly will read from their work and converse with critic, translator, and scholar Robyn Creswell.

The 2012-13 Women Poets at Barnard Series begins with two prize winning poets reading from their work, co-sponsored with the Barnard Center for Research on Women and the Heyman Center for the Humanities.

Poet and Essayist James Fenton returns to the Heyman Center for a second consecutive night to deliver reading of his selected poems.

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Robert Hass served as Poet Laureate of the United States from 1995 to 1997. He will read a selection of poems, to be followed by an interview with Saskia Hamilton of the Barnard College English Department.

Rita Dove served as Poet Laureate of the United States and Consultant to the Library of Congress from 1993 to 1995 and as Poet Laureate of the Commonwealth of Virginia from 2004 to 2006. She has received numerous literary and academic honors, among them the 1987 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. She will read from a selection of her poetry and then discuss her work with Marcellus Blount of the Columbia English Department.

Two of the world's most celebrated poets, Adrienne Rich and Antjie Krog, will read selected poems.  

Mark Strand, Professor of English at Columbia University, and former U.S. Poet Laureate, will read selected poems. Richard Howard Professor at Columbia School of Arts, Writing Division and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, will serve as discussant.
