SUMMARY:Metaphors of the Mind - Public Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:How do we use metaphors to make sense of cognition\, memory\,
and emotions? This public exhibition will feature metaphors
of the mind across cultural\, linguistic\, social\, and discip
linary practices. Episodes include conversations with neuros
 cientists\, historians\, literary scholars\, and cell biologist
s who grapple with the physical objects that have been used
to anchor and articulate the invisible processes of thinking
and feeling. The event will include a discussion panel with
Dr. Lan A. Li and Dr. Alex Wragge-Morley. This public exhib
ition will follow the Metaphors of the Mind workshop\, held o
n the same day\, which will bring together scholars intereste
d in examining the extraordinarily rich variety of languages
and images used to describe the mind and its operations.
