DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, demands for historical justice have intensi
 fied in several national contexts in the form of claims to r
 ight the historical wrongs of European colonialism and the t
 ransatlantic slave trade by means of reparations. These dema
 nds have primarily been met with skepticism and distrust fro
 m national governments and a number of sections of civil soc
 iety. In a context of growing grassroots activism primarily 
 from black and indigenous communities around the world\, an i
 ncreasing number of political representatives are neverthele
 ss starting to come out in support of material reparations. 
 Reparations for the racialized descendants of European colon
 ialism and transatlantic slavery is now a conversation in bo
 th  Global North and Global South in a potentially unpreced
 ented manner.
