Andrew Preston

Senior Lecturer in American History

University of Cambridge

Andrew Preston specializes in the history of American foreign relations, broadly defined, and examines the applications of American power abroad, primarily toward the nations and peoples of East and Southeast Asia since 1945. His teaching and research interests also lie in the intersections between the national and the international, the foreign and the domestic, especially the influence domestic politics and culture--particularly religion--have had on the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. He is the author of Sword of the Spirit, Shield of Faith, a book on the religious influence on American war and diplomacy from the colonial era to the present (Knopf, 2012).
