Avi Astor

Avi Astor earned his PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan (2011). He is currently the Ramón y Cajal Researcher in the ISOR group in the Department of Sociology at the UAB. He has previously held postdoctoral fellowships in the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration (GRITIM) at the Pompeu Fabra University and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Tel Aviv. His research concentrates on identity, culture and religion, with a primary focus on interreligious and interethnic relations. He has published on these issues in several edited collections and international journals, including Theory and Society, The International Migration Review and The Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. In addition to his research, he has supervised several theses, dissertations and final-year projects for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as has taught courses on immigration, religious pluralism and Islam in the Mediterranean, among other subjects.
