Barbara Faedda

Barbara Faedda is the Associate Director of the Italian Academy for Advanced Studies at Columbia University. She received her Ph.D. in Legal Anthropology and Social Science from the S. Orsola Benincasa University in Naples after studying at La Sapienza, University of Rome, where she received her Laurea in Lettere. She has also studied at the Summer Institute of International & Comparative Law in Paris, Cornell Law School, Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, and at Boston University as a visiting scholar in 2002 and 2003.

She is the co-author of Luoghi di frontiera. Antropologia delle mediazioni, the author of I mille volti della moda, and is a contributor to various books and manuscripts from Il Mulino and other publishers.

Her professional background also includes experience in an Italian high-fashion firm in Rome from 1996 to 1998 and a research interest in advertising, food, and visual culture. Dr. Faedda has lectured at La Sapienza, University of Rome, the University of Pisa, the University of Bergamo, the Interior Ministry School of Administration, and the Department of Families and Social Policy of the Municipality of Rome. She is currently working on a manuscript on the Somali Italian minority.
