Brooke Kroeger is a professor at the NYU Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute and directs its graduate unit, Global and Joint Program Studies. She was department chair from 2005-2011 and the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute’s inaugural director from 2008-2011.
She is the author of the just-released Undercover Reporting: The Truth About Deception and its companion database at http://undercoverreporting.org. Her three previous books are Passing: When People Can't Be Who They Are (Fall 2003), Fannie: The Talent for Success of Writer Fannie Hurst (1999) and Nellie Bly: Daredevil, Reporter, Feminist (1994).
As a journalist, she worked for Newsday, as UN Correspondent and as a deputy metropolitan editor for New York Newsday after 11 years with United Press International in its Scripps Howard days, with postings in Chicago, Brussels, London and Tel Aviv. She was Tel Aviv bureau chief for three years before returning to London to serve as the agency's chief editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
