Cathy Popkin is Jesse and George Siegel Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University. Her research interests include Chekhov, 19th and 20th-century Russian prose, literary theory, and late 19th-century scientific discourses (psychiatry, ethnography, medicine).  She is the author of The Pragmatics of Insignificance: Chekhov, Zoshchenko, Gogol.
