Charles Altieri is the Stageberg Professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in poetry and 20th and 21st-century American and British literature. He has received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2003. His publications include Wallace Stevens and the Demands of Modernity: Toward a Phenomenology of Value; The Art of 20th Century American Poetry: Modernism and After; The Particulars of Rapture: An Aesthetics of the Affects; and Subjective Agency: A Theory of First-person Expressivity and its Social Implications.
