Greil Marcus is the author of several books, including Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century, Mystery Train: Images of America in Rock ‘n’ Roll Music, The Shape of Things to Come: Prophecy and the American Voice, and Bob Dylan by Greil Marcus: Writings 1968-2010. His work as a rock critic has been published regularly in Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, The Believer and Artfurm. From 1983 to 1989, Marcus served on the Board of Directors for the National Book Critics Circle. He was described by John Rockwell in The New York Times as "a writer of rare perception and a genuinely innovative thinker."
