Dr Whitehead previously worked as a lexicographer and library researcher on the ongoing third edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.  Since completing his PhD, he has been attached to the Centre for Humanities and Health, as one of the six postdoctoral fellows on a project funded by the Wellcome Trust, entitled The Boundaries of Illness, in a strand relating to illness and narrative.

Dr Whitehead has reviewed books for the Review of English Studies, BARS Bulletin and Review, Social History of Medicine, Peer English and Romantic Textualities: Literature and Print Culture 1780 - 1840. He is also Assistant Editor (with Philipp Hunnekuhl at QMUL) of The Hazlitt Review, an annual peer-reviewed journal devoted to studies in Hazlitt and his circle.
