J.G.A. Pocock is the Harry C. Black Professor of History Emeritus at Johns Hopkins University. He is renowned the world over for his historical writings on political and intellectual thought. His books include Virtue, Commerce, and History; The Machiavellian Moment; Politics, Language, and Time; The Ancient Constitution and the Feudal Law; Barbarism and Religion; and Political Discourse in Early Modern Britain.  Pocock is a member of the British Academy and his awards include the Barzun Prize in Cultural history and the Lippincott Award of the American Political Science Association.
