Julia Doe is an Assistant Professor of Historical Musicology in the Department of Music at Columbia. She is a scholar of eighteenth-century opera, with particular emphasis on the music, literature, and politics of the French Enlightenment. Her current book project examines the influence of Bourbon court patronage on the development of opéra-comique in the final decades of the ancien régime. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Journal of the American Musicological Society, Studies in Eighteenth-Century Culture and The Opera Journal, and has been supported by grants and prizes from the AMS, the Fulbright Program, and the National Opera Association.
