Karen Green has been Columbia's Librarian for Ancient & Medieval History since 2002.  A lifelong comics fan, she initiated Butler Library's graphic novels collection in 2005, and began acquiring comics creator archives in 2011. She wrote a monthly column, "Comic Adventures in Academia," for the ComiXology website from 2007 to 2012, has planned numerous events and panels, including 2012's two-day Comic New York symposium, and has spoken about comics in an academic milieu at universities around the country. She sat on the board of trustees of New York's Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art from 2010 to 2012, served as a judge for the Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards in 2011, and currently is Vice President of the board of directors of the Society of Illustrators.
