Knud Haakonssen

Knud Haakonssen is Professor Emeritus of Intellectual History, Sussex Centre for Intellectual History. He was educated at the Universities of Copenhagen and Edinburgh and holds doctorates from both. Before joining the University of Sussex in 2005, he was Professor of Philosophy at Boston University and had previously taught history of ideas, political science, and philosophy in Australia, New Zealand, and Denmark. He has held visiting positions in these subjects and in law in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Sweden, UK, and the USA.

He is Honorary Professor of History at University College, London, Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Boston University and Long-Term Non-Residential Fellow at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, Uppsala. He has been elected to the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, and the Royal Historical Society.
