Leonore Davidoff

Leonore Davidoff is Research Professor in the Sociology Department and Director of the Center for Cultural and Social History at the University of Essex. Her research interests include domestic service and household management in nineteenth and twentieth-century England and gender relationships in industrial capitalist society.  She was the founding editor of Gender and History and co-author (with Catherine Hall) of Family Fortunes: Men and Women of the English Middle Class (second edition, 2002). She also co-authored The Family Story: Blood, Contract, and Intimacy, 1830-1960 and is the author of a collection of essays, Worlds Between: Gender and Class in Historical Perspective.
