Olindo De Napoli earned doctorates in both Modern History and History of Law from the University of Naples Federico II. His first book, La prova della razza: Cultura giuridica e razzismo in Italia negli anni Trenta, concerns Italian legal culture and racism during the 1930s. He is the author of articles published in Italian and international journals about racism, totalitarian dynamics and law and gender relations in colonial societies. He is interested in comparative perspectives on European colonial powers' legal systems in the 19th and 20th centuries; on this topic the Journal of Modern History will publish an essay in the December 2013 issue. De Napoli has also written on Jewish culture and Fascism, and on the nexus between colonial racism and anti-Semitism. His current research project at the University of Naples is "Legitimizing colonial subjects."
