Riccardo Viale is Full Professor of Methodology of Social Sciences at the Faculty of Sociology of the University of Milano-Bicocca; from 2002 until 2009 he was also Professor of Cognitive Economics and of Research and Innovation Policy at the Scuola Superiore della Pubblica Amministrazione of Roma (SSPA) where he was also Scientific Director of the Master on “Decisional Processes in the Public Administration” and Scientific Director of the 2nd Master on “Science, Technology, and Innovation”. From 1987 to 1999 he was professor of Logic and Epistemology at the Università Bocconi of Milano (DES). In 2011 he was professor at the School of Government of Luiss University of Rome. Scientific Director of LaSCo (Laboratory of Cognitive and Complexity Sciences) of the Rosselli Foundation of Turin; Founder and member of the Steering Committee of AISC-Associazione Italiana di Scienze Cognitive (Italian Association for Cognitive Sciences); Scientific Director of Istituto di Metodologia della Scienza e della Tecnologia of Turin; Editor in chief of Mind & Society – Cognitive Studies in Economics and Social Sciences (Springer- Verlag); Member of the Editorial Board of International Studies of Philosophy of Science; Member of the Editorial Board of Scipolicy – The Journal of Science and Health Policy; Consulting Editor of the journal EPISTEME; Member of the Editorial Board of Sistemi Intelligenti; Founder and General Secretary of the “International Herbert A. Simon Society”. Founder and member of the Executive Committee of “Triple Helix Association”. Member and Visiting Scholar in various foreign universities: Oxford; Aix en Provence; Rice, Houston; Fribourg; Universidade Federal of Rio de Janeiro; University of California, Santa Barbara; Universidade Federal of Niteroi, Brazil. In 2009 he was Senior Visiting Fellow and Research Scholar at the Columbia University of New York.
