Ruth Ben-Ghiat is Professor of Italian Studies and History at New York University. She writes and lectures on 20th century Europe, with a specialization in modern Italy; on empires, with Italian colonialism a particular focus; on World War I & II; on Fascist regimes, and on Italian cinema. She explores transitional moments in history and society - wars and empires and their aftermaths. She is the author of Fascism's Empire Cinema: Histories and Journeys of Conquest and Defeat (Bloomington: Indiana University Press, forthcoming 2014) and Fascist Modernities: Italy, 1922-45. Berkeley, University of California Press, 2001, among others.
