Faculty

Saskia Hamilton joined the Barnard faculty in 2002. She is the author of As for Dream (Graywolf Press, 2001), Divide These (Graywolf, 2005), and Canal: New and Selected Poems (Arc Publications [UK], 2005).

James Hansen directs the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and serves as an adjunct professor at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University and at Columbia’s Earth Institute. 

Ira Katznelson is Ruggles Professor of Political Science and History at Columbia University; Research Associate, Centre for History and Economics, Cambridge University; and, since 2012, President of the Social Science Research Council. He served as President of the American Political Science Association in 2005-06, as Chair of the Russell Sage Foundation Board of Trustees from 1999-2002, and as President of the Social Science History Association in 1997-98.

Mark Mazower is a historian and writer, specialising in modern Greece, 20th century Europe, and international history.

Edward Mendelson is Professor of English and Comparative Literature and Lionel Trilling Professor in the Humanities.

Richard Peña has been at Columbia since 1989, becoming full time in 1996 and being named Professor of Professional Practice in 2003; from 2006-2009 was a Visiting Professor in Spanish at Princeton University. 

Sheldon Pollock is the Arvind Raghunathan Professor of South Asian Studies. From 2005-2011 he served as the William B. Ransford Professor of Sanskrit and Indian Studies at Columbia, and before that as the George V. Bobrinskoy Distinguished Service Professor of Sanskrit and Indic Studies at the University of Chicago, where he taught from 1989-2005.

Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig is a Senior Research Scientist at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies at Columbia University.
