Harvard University

Stephanie Dick is currently a Junior Fellow with the Society of Fellows at Harvard University. She completed a PhD in the Department of History of Science at Harvard University, under the advisement of Professor Peter Galison. Dick studies the history of mathematics and computing in the postwar United States, with a particular interest in how different academic communities negotiated a place for computing in their knowledge-making infrastructure.  She also studies how those communities re-conceptualized and re-materialized their objects and questions of interest in the context of modern digital computing. Her projects document transformations in the production and understanding of mathematical proofs precipitated by the introduction of computers and the history of formal and material tools of digital representation - especially data structures - and the emergence of computer science as an academic discipline in the American context.
